In January Yoga Studies Institute staff teacher James Hall came to the Mahasukha Center to teach Tibetan Heart Series 4: The Yoga of the Kalachakra Tantra. This unique series, possibly the oldest ever written, draws from the teachings & life story of Buton Rinpoche, to introduce the yogi to the five subtle energetic patterns (vayus, or winds) of the body & mind. Through this awareness we understand how it is that the body does not end at our fingertips, but extends to the edges of the universe; and how the purification of our inner channels, winds, and drops of consciousness can change our world.  -

Idyllwild Retreat: From April 9-11, the Mahasukha Center hosted its first retreat in the beautiful mountain setting of Idyllwild, just over 2 hours from LA. Venerable Marut led the 3-day retreat on forgiveness and healing. Located at the Yokoji Zen Mountain Center, the retreat was filled to capacity with 50 attendees from around the country. Mahasukha’s teachers led meditation and yoga classes, while the resident Zen monks prepared delicious meals in the gorgeous surroundings.

Lamaji’s Great Awakening Tour & Mira Kingsley’s Maroke: On April 12th, after Lama Marut gave his teaching “Running a Car Bomb into Your Self-Cherishing”, the Mahasukha Center graduated its first student, Mira Kingsley. Mira completed the entire 18 Full Study Courses of the Asian Classics Institute (ACI) curriculum. Venerable Marut led her final oral exam. Mira was asked questions by attendees from a pool of 100 questions taken from the 18 courses. After successfully answering a series of questions, she gave her first official teaching in respect to the centuries-old tradition. Mahasukha has gained a brilliant new teacher.
